Roberto Villa è nato a Torino nel 1952. Dopo studi di Architettura e una esperienza di circa un decennio sulla progettazione architettonica, in cui ha collaborato a svariati progetti in diversi paesi del mondo, si iscrive a Pittura presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Torino, dove termina gli studi nel 1983; per circa due anni svolge un'esperienza lavorativa in campo archeologico presso l'Università di Torino; dal 1985 insegna Pittura all'Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino; come pittore ha allestito mostre in alcune tra le più importanti capitali europee e nelle maggiori città italiane. In questi ultimi anni ha abbinato alla sua ormai pluridecennale esperienza pittorica, la pratica multimediale, sviluppata con grande passione e risultato nell'ambito di esperienze sia didattiche (da anni svolge il corso di Web Design presso l'Accademia Albertina, oltre ad avere portato avanti e, si potrebbe dire, fatto nascere, corsi come Computer Graphic e Tecniche ed applicazioni multimediali) che creative (svariata produzione nel campo interattivo e di animazione), è l'ideatore e il responsabile di due nuovi indirizzi di laurea: "Progettazione artistica per l'impresa" e "Nuove tecnologie per l'arte", entrambi basati su di un percorso completo (3+2) sono diventati in brevissimo tempo gli indirizzi con più iscritti di tutta l'Accademia.
